The crash was reported about 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of 8th Street and Euclid Avenue and one person has been confirmed dead, said Lt. Alan Ansara of the Upland Police Department.

The driver was apparently speeding, lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree, Ansara said.

There are unconfirmed reports that the victim was street racing another vehicle when the crash occurred.

Aerial video from Sky5 showed the vehicle wrapped around a tree and mangled.

Ansara said authorities have not been able to get the victim out of the car, but they don’t believe anyone else was inside.
