A man from Altadena died Saturday while on a hunting trip in Maryland after his firearm discharged in his face, authorities reported.
Vincent Cavallo, 32, was hunting Saturday morning with his uncle on private land near Camp David, in the are of Thurmont, Maryland, which is rugged and fairly isolated terrain, Candy Thomson, spokeswoman for the Maryland Natural Resources Police, told KTLA.
It was around 9:35 a.m. when Cavallo either slipped or dropped his rifle, causing it to discharge in his face and kill him, Thomson said.
The two men went their separate ways on opening day of this year’s hunting deer with firearms season, and Cavallo’s uncle heard a shot. When he went back to check on his nephew, he found him shot.
The investigation into Cavallo’s death remains open.
Thomson said Cavallo had previously taken a firearms safety course in California.
KTLA’s Dottie Evans contributed to this story.
