Terrifying video posted to YouTube recently captured a snake handler attempting to remove a venomous cobra that emerged from a toilet inside an apartment bathroom in Pretoria, South Africa.
The serpent — described as an approximately 8-foot long snouted cobra — had apparently entered the toilet through the drainage system and was discovered last Thursday morning, according to local television station News 24.
A video of the incident posted to YouTube that same day by user Anton Meijer showed the handler attempting trying to extract the cobra.
According to Meijer, however, the cobra “got agitated and fought back,” prompting the handler to lose his grip.
The snake eventually managed to get back into the sewage pipe, and has not been seen by residents since, News 24 reported on Tuesday.
“We have put cameras in the pipes to look for it. Residents are still worried and some of them are feeling like if it comes up they want to kill it which is something I don’t want,” Barry Greenshields, the handler who was tasked with catching the cobra, told the television station.
“I hope he has left through the pipes,” Greenshields added.
