Authorities on Monday identified two victims in a single-car crash along the 110 Freeway interchange with the 91 Freeway that claimed the lives of four people.
Inglewood resident Ivan Pacheco and Compton resident Rocio Barron, both 18, were among the four declared dead at the scene after the blue Ford Probe they were in crashed into a guardrail, went down an embankment and caught fire around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Ed Winter, assistant chief at the L.A. County coroner’s office.
Officials are waiting to release the name of a third victim, also 18, until that person’s family has been notified.
The vehicle’s fourth occupant was badly burned and will be difficult to ID, Winter said.
The victims had initially been trapped inside the car but were later declared dead at the scene.
It is unclear what exactly led to the crash, but the California Highway Patrol said the car had been traveling at a high rate of speed.
