A man was fatally shot by police during a foot chase in Historic South-Central on Monday, according to LAPD.
Police were in the area of East 27th Street and Maple Avenue when they believed they saw a car being burglarized about 1 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department’s headquarters account stated on Twitter.
The LAPD Metro Division officers chased the burglary suspect on foot.
“This resulted in an Officer-Involved shooting,” an LAPD tweet stated.
One officer fired at the man, striking him. The man, described as Hispanic and in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
It wasn’t immediately clear why the foot chase resulted in gunfire. An LAPD spokesperson was expected to provide further details at the scene.
A handgun believed to have belonged to the man was found, police said.
No officers were injured.
