Two people have been arrested, including a 17-year-old boy, in connection with the death of a man who died a day after getting into a fight at a soccer game in Victorville, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday.
Leobardo Garcia, 36, and the unnamed juvenile, were both arrested in Kings County on Nov. 21, about a month after the fatal incident, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release.
Deputies from the department’s Victorville Station initially responded to a medical aid call at 8:30 on Oct. 22 at a home and located the victim, 45-year-old Victor Paredes. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.
Detectives learned during the investigation that Paredes and his brother, Jose Paredes, had been involved in a fight while attending a soccer game the previous night at the Victorville Fairgrounds.
Following the match, Garcia and the 17-year-old, who played in the game, confronted the brothers about something that happened during the game, the release stated.
The verbal argument escalated, and the suspects allegedly assaulted the brothers, according to the Sheriff’s Department. The fight ended when a referee intervened.
Law enforcement was notified after the altercation, and everyone left the scene.
An autopsy was conducted on Victor Paredes six days after he died, and authorities concluded the cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Garcia was booked last Wednesday into the West Valley Detention Center on a murder charge; the teen was also booked on a charge of murder into the San Bernardino County Juvenile Detention Center, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
