Pair of Winter Storms Expected to Bring Rain, Snow and Gusty Winds to SoCal

A air of winter storms — including one that is expected to be the coldest of the season — will arrive in Southern California beginning Saturday afternoon, bringing rain, snow and gusty winds that could complicate post-holiday commutes.

The storms are part of a low-pressure system lingering over the northern and central coasts and heading south, according to forecasters at the National Weather Service.

When the first of the storms hits the Los Angeles area, it will bring rain and a slight chance of thunderstorms, said Bonnie Bartling, an NWS weather specialist. Most of the rain will fall Saturday, and forecasters expect between a quarter and three-quarters of an inch of rain to fall on average throughout the weekend.

Temperatures across Los Angeles and the surrounding area are expected to drop at least 10 degrees by Saturday night, with lows in the mid-40s and upper 50s and northwest winds between 15 and 25 mph, according to the weather service.
