A downed motorcyclist was reported on the freeway around 4 p.m. near the Lakewood Boulevard exit, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Elizabeth Kravig and the CHP’s incident log.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, Kravig said.
Although initially all four of the freeway’s lanes through the area were blocked, officials later cleared the rightmost lane.
It was unclear how long the remaining three lanes would be closed for. Aerial video from Sky5 showed the incident creating a major bottleneck through the area.
Coroner’s officials were en route to the scene around 5 p.m.
Officials are continuing to investigate the incident.
No further details were immediately available.
