LAPD Pursuit of Possible Stolen Vehicle in San Fernando Valley; Driver Flees Car, Possibly Carjacks Another Vehicle

The Los Angeles Police Department, Burbank Police Department and California Highway Patrol pursued a vehicle that may have been carjacked after the driver fled a possible stolen vehicle in San Fernando Valley Wednesday night.

The pursuit began around 9:30 p.m. at the 170 Freeway in the North Hollywood area.

The driver nearly collided with a truck in traffic before merging onto the 5 Freeway and continuing to drive through Burbank and Sun Valley at high speeds in a black sedan.

The driver then sped southbound onto the 5 Freeway in Arleta before stopping the vehicle in Burbank and running on foot under an overpass near Hollywood Way around 9:55 p.m.

Burbank police officers chased the man and canvased the area for the driver. The man then allegedly carjacked another vehicle, a black Ford F-150 truck, a short time later and officers were once again in pursuit, according to reports.

There were initial reports of a possible hostage in the second vehicle but police have not yet confirmed.

The driver was then seen speeding northbound on the 405 Freeway before traveling to Sherman Oaks and narrowly avoiding multiple vehicles and one pedestrian while driving on the wrong side of the street.

He was shown speeding near Vineland Avenue in North Hollywood heading towards the 101 Freeway and turned onto Ventura Boulevard.

He then drove west 101 Freeway in Studio City before heading southbound in Lake Balboa and traveling to Van Nuys.

The pursuit ended when the driver lost control of the truck, crashed into a light pole and the side of a building in North Hollywood before fleeing the car and running away.

Officers chased him and took him into custody around 10:52 p.m. A male passenger was also shown being taken into custody.
